- Sruth, soon after his father Asruth's death, was set upon by the Egyptians, on account of their former animosities towards their predecessors for having taken part with the Israelites against them; which animosities until then lay raked up in the embers, and now broke out in a flame to a degree, that after many battles and conflicts, wherein most of his colony lost their lives, Sruth was forced with the few remaining to depart the country; and after many traverses at sea, arrived at the island of Creta (now called Candia), where he paid his last tribute to nature.
